We've heard you, and that's why we've brought you this interview with the one and only =saintpoet, creator of the Starlight Rangers movement; to tell us what the story is about and super-fresh info you always wanted to know. YAY!
: Hi Mr.Poet. How are you?
: Fine, at home sheltering from this season's rains, very honored for this interview.
: What inspired you to start the Starlight Rangers project? What's the story behind?
: I've always been a fan of the Rangers, even in my (not so) adult age I still fully enjoy them, I have always been a follower of this Japanese idea of colorful heroes. Despite my work, I have too little time to draw and create this things that I like so much, reason why I disappeared from deviantART for a long while.
At my comeback, with new energies and some lessons taken from life, also, by watching some artist which I admire here on deviantART who did many creative and fantastic stuff in which they involved their followers, I thought to do something along all of those people who have fun creating characters (in an experimental stage of style).
I never thought on how many people would be needed to create an OC, I thought we would be a small group of 10 at most. I have commented this idea to
racheaRannak and well, we thought it would be fun to give it shape.
: What was the process for choosing the character for the main stories, and what happened with the re-opening of the contest and the polls?
: There wasn't an actual criteria for the character selection. I had a preconceived idea of the course of the story and left some empty spots to include new characters and leave it to them and their characteristics to do the rest.
racheaRannak picked a few, and some others according of what we already have spoken about the story. So basically I took those who fit the thread of the argument.
After the due date more and more incredible OCs kept coming, so I re-opened the contest. Initially the idea was to make something fun with the participation of all of those who traced a few lines on a paper. The polls were just to involve the biggest quantity of participants as possible into the project, for them to experience the reward of being involved and having fun with this idea.
: What's the progress on the story?
: The script it’s complete, making a total of two volumes with three chapters each for “Karma Thesis” and I’m trying to include as much cameos as I can, even if they are small. At the end of this interview I’ll leave you a small preview of what’s coming next.
: Can you tell us a bit about the story, a small preview of what is it about??
: Ok but not too much, to not spoil the surprises. The Star Dealer it’s searching for candidates to be Rangers, he would grant their wishes and give them powers, however, granted wishes trigger a “karma” that turns against them. The Star Dealer wants to become the Red Ranger, but before that, he must reunite the whole team.
Efra, aided by other rebels, will try to stop the Star Dealer from causing bad karma with the help of other Rangers that don’t mind to pay the price for their wishes, which are commanded by a formidable ally which I’m not planning to tell you about yet, lol.
: Wasn't Francine in "Orphan Dreams"? What is she doing in "Karma Thesis"?
: “Orphan Dreams” it’s the direct sequel of “Karma Thesis”, don’t be surprised to see other characters from “Orphan” in “Karma Thesis” too.
: Is there an official date for the releasing of the rest of chapter one?
: There’s not an official date, I remind you I have a job that demands a lot of time and this is something I do in my free time and some weekends, but I’m open to everyone willing to help in order to accelerate the process.
: We already know "Karma Thesis" and "Orphan Dreams" are the main stories. Are you planning on another stories for the upcoming Rangers that still joining?
: I’m always thinking about new stories like “Starlight Records” which you have probably seen in my gallery already, but something “concrete”, no; I want to finish drawing “Karma Thesis” first. Everyone who have a story to tell can go ahead and do it, I don’t believe in prizes or credits. I think that the artist should do what they feel, and it amuses me how my crazy ideas inspire others to create with me.
: What do you think about the side stories made by other members like =felixdacat89, ~SIEGEFAULT-II, ~roll002, ~HighwindDesign, etc?
: They are all awesome. Felix’s doujinshi looks great, I love the esthetic twist he gave it by adding the color green, it’s a very talented guy.
~SIEGEFAULT-II's illustrations are AMAZING, my enemies would have been more like a candy nurse n_nU.
~roll002, well, Kellan it’s one of those characters which I find wonderful and got incorporated into the story after the due date. You might see him in “Orphan” or “Karma”, who knows?
~HighwindDesign have given a complete turn to the style, he made it his own and I like his focus a lot.
: Any message for the Rangers at Rangers United?
: Be patient guys, I would love to go faster with this, because it makes me, (how we say over here) “trip” a lot. I invite you to be creative and make your own stories to share with the group, prizes and medals don’t worth as much as these moments when you get to be an artist. I love you a lot and I respect you for enjoying the Starlight Rangers as much or even more than I do. I’ll leave you with this two preview pages so you won’t hate me for the wait. THANK YOU.
